Summary: As in other spheres of his scientific activities, in Goethe's mineralogical studies British scientists, notably Mawe, Macculoch, Greenough, and Scafe occupied a prominent place. From personal contacts with, and the reading of the works of these authors, Goethe derived detailed knowledge of the British mineralogy of his time and of the minerals of Britain, which were well represented in his collections.
