Summary: Extensive studies on oriented reactions in the system MnO-O-H2O have revealed surprising symmetry changes, which we have been unable to explain. Orientation relationships are often complicated, but where interpretation is possible, the results support the idea that orientations are controlled by the oxygen frame-work and that considerable migration of manganese occurs.
