Abstract: Efflorescent outgrowths and compact vein-like material from brucite-rich specimens is a basic magnesium carbonate and possibly a dimorph of artinite. X-ray, infrared, chemical and thermal data reveal the material to be different from known natural basic magnesium carbonates.
