Abstract: Detailed examination of ‘staringite’ by X-ray precession photography and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy shows it to consist of a sub-microscopic intergrowth of cassiterite and tapiolite. ‘Staringite’ is discredited as a valid mineral species.
