Mineral locality data provided by mindat.org

The Mineral Evolution database is currently under development.

The goal of this page is to present localities at which the mineral is found, and estimates of the oldest possible geologic age of the minerals at these localities.

Michelle_000573Concretions bearing whewellite are found in the marine Ohio and Olentangy shales, Ohio. Concretions are described as septarian limestone and often fossiliferous, commonly from one to three feet in diameter. Other minerals within the concretions include fluorescent calcite, dolomite, ankerite, barite, marcasite, quartz and sphalerite. These concretions are found throughout the Devonian Ohio shales.
