The Mineral Evolution database is currently under development.
The goal of this page is to present localities at which the mineral is found, and estimates of the oldest possible geologic age of the minerals at these localities.

Carbonatite occurs at a number of localities on the main island of Brava, particularly in the east central area, but also on the small islands of Ilhéu Luiz Carneiro and Ilhéu de Cima lying about 10 km to the north-northeast. For the purposes of this project these occurrences are taken as one locality. MAGMATIC STYLE: Dykes in basement rocks, ijolite and syenite, irregular intrusions and extrusive rocks including lava flows (Cachaco). ASSOCIATED SILICATE ROCKS: Ijolite, syenite, nepheline syenite, phonolite and nephelinite.

There are three distinct complexes i.e. Arruela in the north, Ribiera da Barca midway along the west coast, and Pensamento in the south. For the purpose of this project these have been treated as one locality. MAGMATIC STYLE: Dykes, plugs and tuffs, including globular lapilli. Found within three separate complexes – see below. ASSOCIATED SILICATE ROCKS: Basanite, nephelinite, essexite, ijolite, trachyte and phonolite.
