Important Update News

The RRUFF Project has been migrated to RRUFF.net. Please update your bookmarks immediately, if you have not done so.

The data on this website is already three years out of date, and the entire website will be taken offline before the end of the year.

We are grateful to NASA for the funding of this effort.

The Mineral Evolution database is currently under development.

The goal of this page is to present localities at which the mineral is found, and estimates of the oldest possible geologic age of the minerals at these localities.

Michelle_294The 132 North Mine is a nickel mine known for the variety of secondary nickel minerals. The mine itself occurs in an ultramafic basalt lava flow of the Widgiemooltha Komatiite Formation, overlaying the Mt Edwards Basalt Formation.
Michelle_514Komatiite deposit in the Eastern Goldfields Province, discovered in 1970. Putnisite occurs in the oxidation zone of komatiite and dioritic lodes.

Dates on felsic volcanic rocks that include komatiites are consistent with an inferred eruption age for these komatiites of c. 2705 Ma.
