Michelle_270The Markey Mine is in the White Canyon mining district, San Juan County, Utah. The mine is geologically similar to the nearby Blue Lizard and Giveaway-Simplot mines. These mines have been the source of several new secondary uranyl sulfate minerals. The Markey Mine is richer in uranyl carbonate minerals, possibly as a result of considerably higher atmospheric CO2 concentration compared to the Blue Lizard mine.
Michelle_744The Triassic Shinarump member of the Chinle formation hosts the Blue Lizard Mine and other significant uranium deposits in the White Canyon District.
Michelle_745Ore minerals were deposited as replacement of wood and other organic material and as disseminations in the enclosing sandstone found in paleochannels.
