The Mineral Evolution database is currently under development.
The goal of this page is to present localities at which the mineral is found, and estimates of the oldest possible geologic age of the minerals at these localities.

The Markey Mine is in the White Canyon mining district, San Juan County, Utah. The mine is geologically similar to the nearby Blue Lizard and Giveaway-Simplot mines. These mines have been the source of several new secondary uranyl sulfate minerals. The Markey Mine is richer in uranyl carbonate minerals, possibly as a result of considerably higher atmospheric CO2 concentration compared to the Blue Lizard mine.

The Triassic Shinarump member of the Chinle formation hosts the Blue Lizard Mine and other significant uranium deposits in the White Canyon District.

Ore minerals were deposited as replacement of wood and other organic material and as disseminations in the enclosing sandstone found in paleochannels.
