Locality Notes from all Ages at Locality:
Age IDLocality Notes
Giersdorf_00001023The Kokchetav median massif formed during the Caledonian orogeny. Its basement is composed of Precambrian crystalline rocks and weakly metamorphosed volcanoclastic deposits of the Cambrian-Ordovician age cut by multi-phase complexes of granitoids formed during the Silurian-Devonian orogenic period. Isolated basins in the basement are filled with orogenic volcano-sedimentary rocks and post-Devonian (Carboniferous-Jurassic) platform sediments. The basement of this massif is cut into individual blocks by a series of long-lived deep-seated faults of various orientations. The main uranium deposits of the region are located at nodes of intersection of these faults, for the most part, near the periphery of uplifted blocks of Precambrian metamorphic rocks cut by granite inclusions.
