Michelle_835Sulfide oxidation and acid leaching of lignite have led to an increased mobility of ions and precipitation of humboldtine, and younger generations of pyrite and marcasite along the dislocation faces. Exposure to the atmosphere during and after the mining period resulted in the precipitation of a variety of minerals, including melanterite, rozenite, realgar, orpiment, and various ochreous deposits. Drainage effluents in the central mine-water reservoir have pH values between 2.3 and 2.9. Here, concentrations of SO4 2– and total Fe that range up to 3800 and 900 ppm, respectively, have led to the recent growth of jarosite-goethite nodules
