Michelle_708Mellite is formed from the reaction between organic carbon rich solutions with aluminosilicates. It is found but rarely in nature, occurring as crystalline prisms or pyramids with a resinous lustre as a secondary mineral in crevices in brown coal and lignite and sometime in association with gypsum in lignitic clays in Bohemia, Thuringia and Russia. Highly diversified associations of fossil Gymnosperms as well as Angiosperms were described from the Miocene deltaic series in the Bílina area, near Most. At Bílina, other organic compounds form accumulations in the frame of lignitic coal and claystones. At Bílina, whewellite forms often transparent crystals in slates and pelocarbonate concretions, humboldtine and hartite have also been found but rarely in concretions.
Michelle_845Hartite and whewellite are found in the Holesˇice Member of the Most Formation in the Bílina open pit. They are found in infrequently in nodules, with hartite sometimes associated with fossil tree roots.
Michelle_846Hartite, mellite, whewellite, humboldtine are found in Miocene coal deposits. At B´ılina site, whewellite forms often transparent crystals in slates and pelocarbonate concretions, humbodltine and hartite have also been found but rarely in concretions.
